While electric vehicles are becoming a part of our lives, charging time is still a major concern for many users. However, SAIC-GM and CATL came together to solve this problem and developed the 6C ultra-fast charging technology. So, what are the benefits of this technology? Well, the answer is simple: you will now be able to fully charge your electric vehicles in just 10 minutes. Here are the details…
Giant cooperation from SAIC-GM and CATL: Electric vehicles will be fully charged in 10 minutes
The new LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery can be charged at 6 times its capacity. So, if you have a battery with a capacity of 80 kWh, it can be charged at 480 kW and be fully charged in just 10 minutes. Larger capacity batteries, say 100 kWh, can achieve this time with 600 kW of charging power. According to SAIC-GM, even a 5-minute charge provides a range of 200 kilometers.
This is a great advantage for electric vehicle users who worry about charging time, especially on long journeys. The new batteries, which are planned to be released next year, will work on the 900V architecture with the Ultium platform.
However, in order for this new technology to reach its full potential, high-power charging infrastructure must also be developed. In other words, it is imperative that charging stations that can keep up with this technology become widespread. While SAIC-GM has made great strides in this regard, other automakers are also expected to adapt to this technology.
In short, with this revolutionary step in the electric vehicle world, full charging in 10 minutes will no longer be a dream. What do you think about this? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
